Visual Artifact in Cloth Editor

Postby Damgori ID:Damgori » Thu Jul 29, 2010 2:38 am

Specs
XP 64 pro (sp2)
AMD Phenom 9950 quad
4ghz Ram
NVIDIA GeForce GTX260 Driver 6.14.11.7739

Pics below show the artifact which seems to be "attached" to the camera AND also bound to the animations as it moves in a fixed position with the camera and bobs about in the animation. It appears to be an actual meshed object as shown in the wireframe pic and it is also affected by the light direction. It can be induced to appear in all animations in the editor, but is relative to the camera position and direction.

Anyone know what it is, or indeed have a similar issue, and how do I get rid of the pesky blighter?

Could there possibly be some extra mesh data in one of the .dae files used for generating clothing?

This will appear with any item of clothing. I have also removed all clothing so I m standing there in the nud and the artifact remains. It really looks like the camera is rendering the inside of the avatar skull or the backfaces of the eyebrows or something. Appears in each version of the cloth editor that I have used.

Hmm... I was going to suggest re-installing the Dev Tools, but has this artifact persisted upon installing newer versions of the tools?

Does it show also in Item and/or Body Editors? If it does, the level file got corrupted and you'll need to reinstall.

As far as I can recall, yes this has persisted. It is also evident (though to a less significant degree) in the "preview" in blue mars mode from the Block editor and from time to time I would get the briefest flicker across my screen in the Blue Mars Client in world (however, in world it is more like a flickery spidery web fleeting across my view)....so it is either dodgy graphics driver, dodgy installations, or something persistent with my avatar across these platforms, or even my particular graphics/os/system hardware has a peculiar effect on the editors..

@andrei This seems to apply only when the avatar is in the scene....in the body editor is is obviously the back of the eyes that are being rendered, the eyelashes at the focal point of the camera, I can even see them blink there! But in the item editor there is no artifact, in the block ( preview in blue mars part ) and the cloth editor it appears to be a thick eyebrow....something hairy anyway......

It is definitely the eyelashes when the female avatar is loaded, and most probably some form of hair remnant on the male avatar which is being rendered on screen. Is the suggestion to reinstall, and if so what do I need to do to keep my data folder and still achieve a clean install?

It's always safest to zip the MyData folder (and possibly your company directory in Game\Levels) and move it to a new location out of the Blue Mars Developer Tools directory. However, the installer should not remove any data that you have added to the Developer Tools directory.

So after several reinstallations of the original set of tools, and now a complete new installation of the updated tools the artifact is still there, it is definitely the projection of the avatars eyebrows and eyelashes onto the camera focal point, and is only "absent" when the avatar is in the t-pose, specifically because the head is not moving. It is not a major headache and does not disrupt my life too much, its only slightly weird and annoying.
